Namibia Safari

The Ultimate Namibia Luxury Safari

Namibia is located on the South Western coast of Africa. A relatively newer country, it was given it’s independence in 1990 after over 100 years of rule from South Africa and Germany. It is a country with an awe-inspiring landscape and the largest wild cheetah population in the world.

This roughly rectangular country is about double the size of California. It is bordered by Angola to the north, Zambia to the northeast, Botswana to the east, South Africa to the southeast and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

Vast wildlife area in Namibia

Namibia boasts one of the best conservation models in Southern Africa beyond traditional National Parks, the country has a community-based natural resource model in which rural communities that are traditionally affected by poverty benefit from their natural resources. These communities team up with companies to create lodges in their area which create profit and employment for the community. This two-pronged approach allows not only for the conservation of animals, but also help for local communities.

The city of Windhoek is the capital city of Namibia and the best place to start or end your Namibia safari. Conveniently located in the center of the country with an international airport, this city has a great modern design mixed with traditional African themes and old German architecture. There is no shortage of hotels, Airbnbs, delicious food, shopping, and amazing cafes to keep you entertained on your journey.

Etosha National Park & Surrounding Areas

Located in the Northern part of the country, Etosha National Park is one of the most popular destinations for a Namibia safari. The word Etosha means “great white area” and it is referring to the fact that the park is dominated by a large salt pan (the largest in Africa)  which fills with water for a short time each year. When it rains, flamingos can be seen flocking to the salt pan.

It is one of the easiest, safest, and most accessible places to go on Safari in Southern Africa. This park is packed with wildlife including our usual favorites of Elephant, zebra, giraffe, lion, and leopard, along with the usuals it is also one of the best places within Southern Africa to see cheetahs and black rhinos. For a more intimate and exclusive experience, we tend to book our clients at camps on the east and west borders of the National Park, many in private concessions, which allow for activities such as night drives and guided walks (these activities are not permitted within the park).

Skeleton Coast

Namibia boasts a 1,570 kilometer (975 miles) coastline, but the 500 kilometers (311 miles) in the Northern part of the country (between the old German colonial town of Swakopmund and the Angolan border) makes up some of the most unique and untamed coastlines in the world.

The Skeleton Coast of Namibia is one of the most remote and rugged regions in all of Africa and offers the perfect combination of untouched wilderness and wildlife, captivating history, dramatic landscapes, and unimaginable solitude. This vast area contains some of the world’s oldest deserts, long stretches of deserted beachlines, and a vast array of diverse wildlife. It is an area that has captivated travelers from Africa and beyond as it offers a unique combination of dramatic landscapes, captivating wildlife, fascinating history and unthinkable solitude.

The area gets its name from the animal bones scattered amongst its coast such as bones of whale carcasses, seals, and other large sea creatures that wash up. The shoreline is one of the most intense regions in all of Africa, characterized by an arid climate and intense ocean currents. Despite these conditions, the region still contains a rich abundance of wildlife including hyenas, lions, leopards, elephants, and rare desert-adapted animals such as the Hartmann’s mountain zebra.

The Skeleton Coast is also famous for its shipwrecks, which are scattered along the shoreline. Many of these ships have been around since the 1800s and some lie close enough to the shore to be seen from land. They serve as a reminder of the treacherous conditions that mariners face when navigating this coastline.

Damaraland

Damaraland has become a unique destination that many travelers have come to appreciate. It is located in the north west of the country and lies between the Skeleton Coast National Park, the Huab River and !Nami-Nûs Conservancy. This area features an abundance of diverse wildlife, including desert elephants, springbok, gemsbok and giraffe. The stunning landscape of Damaraland is made up of vast open plains, rocky outcrops, and sand dunes.

The traditional people who inhabit the area are the Damara, who have lived in this region for hundreds of years. They share a deep connection to their land, living off what the desert can provide. This includes the harvesting of honey, baobab fruits, and palm nuts which are staples in their diet.

Damaraland is a great destination for nature lovers as it provides incredible opportunities to explore some of the most expansive deserts in Africa. You’ll also find fascinating archaeological sites such as Twyfelfontein, which is home to the world’s oldest rock art. There are also many activities available such as bird watching and game drives, where you can spot a variety of animals in their natural habitat.

Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by the world’s highest sand dunes in the Namib Desert of Namibia. Located within the Namib-Naukluft National Park, this area boasts some of the most spectacular desert landscape in the world.  The dunes soar up to 300 meters high, while the pan itself is roughly 48 kilometers long and 12 kilometers wide.

The area is best known for its unique dunes which were formed several million years ago when water from neighboring rivers would travel into the pan before evaporating in the sun’s heat. As this process occurred over time, the sand was left behind in large mounds, slowly shifting and reshaping the landscape.

Sossusvlei is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Namibia since it offers visitors a variety of exciting activities such as sand-boarding and hot air balloon rides. It’s also home to some unique desert wildlife including hyenas, jackals, antelopes, and even the elusive leopard. For those looking to get away from it all, Sossusvlei is an ideal spot for star-gazing or simply taking in the spectacular sunsets. Regardless of how you decide to explore Sossusvlei, one thing’s for certain - this unique desert oasis will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
